Epioxa™ for Keratoconus in Shelton, CT
Connecticut Eye Specialists is proud to offer Epioxa™, an FDA-approved epithelium-on corneal cross-linking treatment designed to help halt the progression of keratoconus.

A New Non-Invasive Cross-Linking Option for Keratoconus
Keratoconus is a progressive condition that causes the cornea to thin and become irregular in shape, often leading to blurred or distorted vision. When detected early, corneal collagen cross-linking may help stabilize the cornea and reduce the risk of continued progression.
Epioxa is different from traditional “epi-off” cross-linking because it does not require removal of the corneal epithelium, the outermost layer of the cornea. This epithelium-on approach is designed to improve patient comfort and support a smoother treatment experience.
Why Connecticut Eye Specialists?
Connecticut Eye Specialists provides advanced cornea and refractive surgical care, including comprehensive keratoconus evaluation, progression monitoring, and surgical alternatives for patients whose vision can no longer be adequately managed with glasses or contact lenses.
Dr. Cervantes recently shared that Connecticut Eye Specialists is among the first practices in the country to offer Epioxa, bringing this advanced cross-linking technology to patients in Shelton and the surrounding Connecticut communities.
How Epioxa Treatment Works
Epioxa treatment is performed by your doctor one eye at a time and uses prescription riboflavin eye drops, oxygen, and UV light to strengthen the cornea and help halt keratoconus progression.
1. Applying the Eye Drops
The doctor applies Epioxa and Epioxa HD eye drops for a few minutes.
2. Oxygen-Rich Environment
Boost Goggles® are placed over the eye to provide oxygen needed for the cross-linking effect.
3. UV Light Treatment
A special UV light works with the drops and oxygen to strengthen the cornea.
