PSA on Eye Drop Recall

There has been a lot of attention regarding the eye drops recalls. It is unlikely that if you’ve bought eye drops recently that they are related to the recall. In case you have drops and want to check them out, the affected drops and brands are listed below. Please check what you have. Consumers are advised to stop using the following brands and return them to the place of purchase.

  • Brimonidine Tartrate Ophthalmic Solution, 0.15%. Apotex Corp. initiated a voluntary recall for six lots of Brimonidine Tartrate Ophthalmic Solution on March 1 due to cracks in the caps. The prescription drops are used for patients with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension. No infections have been associated with the product.  The six (6) lots of Brimonidine Tartrate Ophthalmic Solution, 0.15% can be identified by NDC numbers stated on the carton and label of the product. The lot number and expiry date are located on the top flap of the carton and to the left side of the product description on the bottle label beside the barcode. These lots were distributed nationwide in the USA between April 05, 2022 to February 22, 2023. The affected lots #s TJ9848, TJ9849, TK0258, TK5341, TK 0261, and TK0262. 
  • Purely Soothing 15% MSM Drops. The FDA announced on March 3 that Pharmedica USA was voluntarily recalling two lots of Purely Soothing Drops. This over-the-counter product is being recalled due to non-sterility. There have not been reports of illness or infection related to the product.  The eye drop is used as an anti-inflammatory aimed to assist with symptoms of ocular irritation and/or swelling and is packaged in white, cylindrical HDPE bottles. The eye drops (LOT#: 2203PS01, 1 oz, UPC 7 31034 91379 9; and LOT#: 1808051, ½ oz, UPC 7 31034 91382 9) have eye dropper caps and white lids. 
  • In addition to drops, the FDA has also recalled Global Pharma Healthcare Artificial Eye Ointment due to possible bacterial contamination. No infections have been associated with this over-the-counter product.  The product is packaged in a bottle with a safety seal and are placed in a carton box Ezricare NDC 79503-0101-15, UPC 3 79503 10115 7; Delsam Pharma’s NDC 72570-121-15, UPC 3 72570 12115 8.
